Unbelievable! Wow! Holy Cow! #$*% :} !
Pick any of your favorite happy expressions and I guarantee it still would fall short of expressing the energy and excitement around the HyVee Triathlon in Des Moines this weekend. HyVee did a phenominal job putting together a world class event that played host to some of the best triathletes from around the world.
Great hosting offset the very challenging conditions. Can you imagine at 1:30 or 4:30 on a summer afternoon deciding to take part in a 1.5K swim, 40K bike ride and 10K run, at the top of your game? Ok, I agree that still sounds like fun. But, what if you were asked to do that in 92' heat, 1000% humidity, with 20-30 mph winds and a hilly course with challenging finish? Ok, I see fewer hands out there.
The athletes were a treat to watch take on the course and conditions and made it look artful. Tricast did a great job bringing live coverage and the athletes brought all the emotion.
Congratulations to all the young finishers on Saturday, the age groupers on Sunday morning (a very early start at 6:00 am) and of course to the women's winner Laura Bennett (GO USA!) and the men's winner Rasmus Henning.
And congratulations to some of our "ordinary" running friends who did extraordinary races yesterday! Brian, Christina, and John - way to go!
My motivation reserves are now refilled to the brim!
